BANCOS G&H Chronicle

History

Established as a German Limited Company in 1988 as the result of a management buy-out of the IT department of Gries & Heissel Privatbankiers AG (the ‘G&H’ in G&H Bankensoftware AG) the organisation was initially aimed at serving G&H Privatbankiers who strongly focused on wealth management, which was the driver for the BANCOS security trading module. In its first year, however, G&H Bankensoftware AG won their second customer, Berlin-based Allgemeine Beamten Kasse (ABK), who have since then been a client using the BANCOS Fixed-Term Loan, Revolving Credit, Giro Accounts, and Savings modules.

From the first year, G&H Bankensoftware AG have constantly grown to become and remain one of Germany’s premium banking solutions providers. In 1996, G&H Bankensoftware AG launched BANCOS ONLINE, Germany’s first solution for secure Internet banking, which has since then been to include a CORBA-based interface to BROKAT Twister and HP Nimius. Moreover, a telephone banking application and a call centre solution were developed by G&H.

Despite its convension to a German plc (‘AG’) in 1998, G&H have remained a management-owned business until today. The year 2000 saw the creation of a 51% subsidiary, BANCOS GmbH. Owned by its management and G&H Bankensoftware AG, BANCOS GmbH’s focus is the development and maintenance of the BANCOS browser,
a Java-based graphical user interface for the BANCOS backend platform.

The next milestone in the company history was the introduction of a change to the German Banking Act resulting in account reporting as defined by KWG §24c. A tool to comply with this new regulatory reporting requirement was developed by G&H and has, since then, been operated by T-Systems, doubling the BANCOS client base.

In 2007, the organisation moved into their new headquarters in Berlin’s Wilmersdorf distict. The new facilities provide ample space for development and growth.

Outlook into the future:

2009 and 2010 will be dedicated to further expansion on international markets. Liaison offices will be created in focus countries and projects delivered to banks in and outside Europe.
